The month of Ramadan is one of the four holiest months in the Muslim calendar. During Ramadan, Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset, read the Quran, spend time with family, perform charitable acts, and pray.
Children often participate in some of the activities but they are not expected to fast. This year, Ramadan began in North America on Aug. 22. The month ends with Eid al-Fitr, a celebratory feast that marks not only the end of the fast but also the culmination of the spiritual journey that Muslims experience during Ramadan.
